On-call pattern in the source
- Registrar on-call week: Monday 08:00 to the following Monday 08:00.
- Weekday registrar hours described as 08:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday, with Friday and the weekend covered as specified by the rota.
- Consultants split weekday on-call cover, with one consultant covering the weekend.
- The weekly and monthly on-call and elective rota allocates registrars and specialty doctors across DRI, BDGH and MMH.
Ward rounds
- The on-call registrar reviews patients in Ward 27 and Ward 19 with the on-call consultant and junior team.
- Attend the Theatre 1 team brief before the Ward 27 round when an emergency case is listed; the source gives 08:00.
- The non-on-call registrar leads the 08:00 Ward 19 round for elective postoperative patients.
- Review medicines, observations, blood results and imaging; document a clear plan, including discharge arrangements.
- Discuss complex patients regularly with the responsible consultant and obtain a reliable handover.
Emergency theatre
