Unstable or deteriorating patient

Continue resuscitation, involve the responsible ED senior clinician, follow the current DBTH sepsis, major-haemorrhage or trauma pathway, and contact Urology. Involve critical care early when organ support or admission may be required.

Interventional radiology

The September 2024 booklet states that interventional radiology was available on weekdays from 09:00 to 21:00 and at weekends until 17:00, with a radiology consultant available for discussion at all times.

These hours must be confirmed. Do not delay source control in an infected obstructed system. Urology and radiology should agree the safest current decompression route.

Requests from other hospitals

The booklet instructs registrars not to accept requests to organise emergency nephrostomy from another Urology unit without consultant-to-consultant discussion. Present-day escalation and governance routes must be confirmed locally.

Out-of-hours Haematology and Microbiology

Use current DBTH policies and switchboard/on-call routes. The induction booklet contains historic operational statements and 2017 anticoagulation links; these are retained in the review register but are not reproduced as current instructions.
